The advantage of using File Transfer Protocol is that you can set up separate accounts, each with a different level of access to your web space, so if you have to provide a 3rd party with access, for instance – a designer, they’ll be able to access only a particular directory and will not be able to access the rest of your web content or any other information, such as personal details. Three things are compulsory in order to be able to establish an FTP connection – a hostname, which is usually a domain name or an IP, a username and a password.
