FTP Accounts
Learn about FTP accounts and about FTP as a whole - exactly what they are and when you will need them.
FTP, which is an abbreviation for File Transfer Protocol, represents the most famous method for transferring files to a web hosting account. Using an FTP software program that is pre-installed on your desktop or laptop computer, you can set up a connection to your hosting server and copy all the files that you want with a couple of clicks of the mouse. This is done via an easy-to-navigate graphical interface and it is as easy as dragging ‘n’ dropping the abovementioned files. The advantage of using File Transfer Protocol is that you can set up separate accounts, each with a different level of access to your web space, so if you have to provide a 3rd party with access, for instance – a designer, they’ll be able to access only a particular directory and will not be able to access the rest of your web content or any other information, such as personal details. Three things are compulsory in order to be able to establish an FTP connection – a hostname, which is usually a domain name or an IP, a username and a password.

FTP Accounts in Semi-dedicated Servers
Our
Linux semi-dedicated servers are pretty powerful, which makes them perfect for hosting an extensive number of sites. Speaking of which, we have chosen not to put a limit on the number of FTP accounts that you can set up, so you can have a separate account for each Internet site that you host on our semi-dedicated servers. All FTP accounts will be displayed alphabetically in the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each and every semi-dedicated server account. For any of them, you will be able to view the access path and to edit it, if necessary. What’s more, you can set up an account in a client of your liking by downloading an auto-config file and installing it on your home computer, which will save you time. If you’ve never had a web hosting account previously, you can watch our comprehensive how-to videos, which can be accessed through the same section of the Control Panel.

FTP Accounts in VPS Servers
None of the
VPS servers that we’re offering includes a restriction on the total number of FTP accounts that you can have at any moment, so you can create a separate account for any website hosted on your Virtual Private Server, irrespective of whether it is under a domain or sub-domain. It also does not matter which hosting Control Panel you will select when you register – cPanel, Hepsia or DirectAdmin, as an FTP server will be set up on your VPS during the installation of any of them. In case you want different people to be able to set up an FTP connection to one and the same folder with their very own sign-in credentials, for instance, it will take several mouse clicks to set up a different FTP account for each one of them. Removing an existing account or modifying the directory that it can connect to is just as simple and you won’t have any obstacle, even if you don’t have any previous experience in such matters.
